Description

The Dortmund Sackfabrik Otto Sticht was founded in 1900 by the sales representative in sewing machines, Mr. Otto Sticht. As early as 1904 the company had 40 employees, whereupon the Dortmund Chamber of Commerce and Industry insisted that the company be entered in the commercial register at the Dortmund district court under number HR A 6514 as a sack factory. In the period that followed, the business was mainly done with the sale of coal sacks for the house brandy, flour, sugar and grain sacks for the bakeries, the sugar factories and grain wholesalers. With the industrialization of the Ruhr area, the steelworks, chemical plants, mining and the entire metalworking industry also became partners. In 1935, the company became a founding member of the jute sack traders' association, which was renamed after 1945 in the "Association for jute and heavy fabric manufacture" and in the early 80s in the "Federal association of plastic and heavy fabric manufacture. At times the company had over 100 employees in the 1930s and 1940s. Since packaging was in short supply, especially during the war, all available materials were repeatedly repaired and processed to transport goods. Like many other companies in the Ruhr area, the Dortmund sack factory was not spared the destruction of the production facilities due to the constant bombing by the Allies. Immediately after the end of the war, Willm's heirs rented a property at Semerteichstrasse 63 on which the new production halls and the office were built. In the meantime, work continued provisionally at the goods outsourcing locations; from 1947/1948, full production was again possible at Semerteichstrasse 63. After the death of Ms. Dohrmann in 1961 and her son in 1964, the company was taken over by the third generation, Ms. Dorothea Hoffmann, who had worked for the company for many years. Subsequently, Mr. Helmut Kämmerling was given power of attorney and the site leased by Willm's heirs was purchased. After Ms. D. Hoffmann's death on August 27, 1998, the company was incorporated as a GmbH by the managing partner Mr. H.D. Jankus continued in the fourth generation. For this, a change of location had to be made. The company has been established at Hengsener Straße 8 in 44309 Dortmund-Brackel since January 1st, 1999. However, after about 1 year you had to find out that the rented premises are too small. For this reason, the company built a production hall of approx. 1,300 sqm and a one-story office building on the former Minister Stein colliery in the "Neue Mitte Eving" in Dortmund-Eving in the course of 2001. We look forward to further business with our customers and remain Sincerely yours Your Dortmund sack factory Otto Sticht GmbH
