Description

The trained toolmaker and inventor Ernst Schmid founded his toolmaking company on October 1, 1935 in Oberesslingen. In close cooperation with the Esslingen mechanical engineering school, he started with the production and grinding of calibration and hardness testing diamonds. A machine was developed and built especially for this purpose, but it only worked effectively and economically thanks to a nightly inspiration from the Swabian inventive spirit. The first SCHMID fine boring bars with an accuracy of 1/1000 mm were developed at the same time and also in collaboration with the Esslingen mechanical engineering school. But that's not all. On the side and for many nights, Ernst Schmid designed a pocket screwdriver, which was part of the original equipment in aircraft and cars during the war and which was sold rapidly. Ernst Schmids Werkzeugbau already had an extensive range of products at the beginning of the 1950s. These ranged from eyeglass lens grinding machines, can closing machines, cone testing devices, centric clamping and drilling devices to the planing and boring tools still produced today, micro boring heads, system tools, plunge-in tools and carbide centering tips. With the first participation as an exhibitor at the Hanover Fair in 1952, Ernst Schmid was able to significantly increase his enormous success in exporting his tools. The steady growth of the company made the construction of a larger and more modern company building necessary. Finally, in 1957, the company moved into new workshops and offices in the Lerchenäcker district of Esslingen. Back then built up by Ernst Schmid and his wife Anne with great commitment and many personal waivers, today it is successfully continued in the third generation as Ernst Schmid Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH. Despite and precisely because of the increasing competition from the Far East, Schmid relies on the highest material quality, precision and customer proximity.
