Description

The Loquai-Holzkunst company was founded in 1934 by Rudolf Arwed Loquai in the small ore mountain town of Augustusburg, near the Chemnitz industrial area. Soon he was a popular supplier of commercial graphics, designs for catalogs, carved signposts and company signs for many wood and toy companies in the Ore Mountains. Already in 1936, due to the high demand from all over Germany, he organized a mail order business, which soon became the largest branch of the young company. In 1938, the first expansion of the company took place on a neighboring property and through the purchase of a carpentry. This development was abruptly interrupted when Rudolf Arwed Loquai was drafted into military service in 1940. 1943 had to be closed. The operating rooms were confiscated, used as warehouses and occupied by evacuated and bombed out people. At the beginning of 1946, he reopened a workshop for carving, turning and Christmas decorations in Velburg / Oberpfalz. He started with machines taken from the scrap. In 1947 he employed 20 people, in 1948 55 people were employed. Now the production was sold exclusively to resellers, also to wholesalers and exporters. In 1950 the company suffered a hard blow. On January 26, a fire destroyed almost the entire company. Thereupon Rudolf Arwed Loquai moved to the French zone. The ambitious entrepreneur made the third start into self-employment via the intermediate station in Bad Bergzabern, Erfweiler in the Palatinate Forest and finally Inchenhofen in the district of Aichach in Upper Bavaria. On his 50th birthday, December 2, 1958, he finally acquired the former Hofwirt estate in Pöttmes, today's location of our company. Despite various difficulties, some modifications were made and the foundation stone was laid for today's company in Pöttmes. The production of precious wooden toys and gift boxes now took an unprecedented upswing. The founder Rudolf Arwed Loquai died on November 18, 1967. Now the eldest son, Andreas, took over the sample production, sales and customer care. The youngest son, Albrecht, joined the company and took over production. The youngest daughter, Christina, was granted procuration and from then on was responsible for shipping at home and abroad. With the new range of products, the company flourished to new sizes in the 1960s and 1970s. This in turn required ongoing investments in structural and mechanical extensions. In addition to the miniatures, gifts and souvenirs, more and more toys for kindergarten and pre-school education have been manufactured since 1980. Small boxes and boxes make up a large part of the production. These are intended for kindergartens and shops, but also for confectionery and delicatessen.
