The company is founded as a chimney construction company and technical office for lightning rod production. In 1920 Wilhelm Balkenhohl took over Theodor Baum GmbH. In the following decades, the company continued to develop significantly, particularly in the field of lightning protection, and was largely responsible for the creation of the Association of German Lightning Protection Companies (VdB). In the period up to 1939, our company made its experience and performance in the field of antenna, steel structure and truss masts available to military institutions. From these masts, among other things, the later antenna systems for the Federal Border Guard are created, which are erected and maintained by us alone. In 1965, Hans-Ulrich Balkenhohl took over the company's fortunes. The foundation stone is laid for the obstacle lighting area. The first chimney with lighting is built in the Hüls chemical plant. Building on this, the company builds almost all lighting systems on the large chimneys and cooling towers of the major energy producers in Germany. Many plants are also being built in the neighboring European countries and the rest of the world. Our success is reflected in many awards and the same satisfied clients. Last but not least, the award of the Federal Cross of Merit by the Federal President testifies to the success and constant commitment. Theodor Baum GmbH has access to the area of ​​industrial electronics via the obstacle lighting system. The first surge protection device comes from our company. Interior lighting, controls and all electrical tasks in the chimney area are supplied and installed. In 1988 Detlev Balkenhohl joined the company as the third generation and expanded the range of services: climbing protection, safety technology on tall buildings and radio technology were integrated into the work areas. In the past decade, the company has primarily intensified its European and international business. Obstacle lights with our know-how can be found all over the world. We currently employ a total of 30 people: Engineers, master electricians, technicians and specialists with exceptionally completed vocational training. Experience creates security - since 1846
