Vaissi Oy is a family-owned food company based in Central Finland.
The company?s story is exceptional in many ways, not least because
the family business operating in a traditionally male-dominated
industry is today led by a young woman, Maria Vaissi. Vaissi Oy
probably would not exist if it were not for an industrial safety inspector?s
visit to Vaissi Farm in Haapam"aki in 1974. At that time, Vaissi produced
pre-processed cabbage leaves. The industrial safety inspector was
not happy with a device used to drill the cabbage stems out of the leaves
to be cooked. Because the device did not satisfy the inspector, J
aakko Vaissi started developing a cabbage cooking device that would
fulfil the requirements. This cooking device is still operational today.
